“Europe – the hope particle”
by Matthias Rott
With this film I’d like to find a unique way of expressing the topic of the apocalypse, the end of the world, and maybe a new beginning. The sound of this film is unnerving and perhaps disturbing. With harsh black and white and high contrast I aim to get a dreamy effect of the visuals and keep things quite ambiguous, for sometimes it’s not quite clear what is depicted in the image. The reason for this is to immerse the viewer completely and convey a feeling of hopelessness, although there is also room for a new hope in the subtext. Europe had to and still has to find its place in this world with all the obstacles and boundaries which may be overcome some day, or not. It’s up to the recipient to make this decision, because you can see only the depressing parts of my film, or find that particle of hope in it, which promises a future worth living for.
